Runway Art Toys
Yves Saint Laurent
& Maison Margiela

Genesis

The first two pieces in this set were originally created after being contacted by a fashion magazine in Barcelona.
They wanted Art Toys based on two iconic runway looks: one from Maison Margiela and one from Yves Saint Laurent.

Some time later, after seeing these pieces, María Escoté commissioned a figure inspired by the YSL look Le Cœur, designed by Hedi Slimane.
Although the three works were created at different moments and for different reasons, I present them together because they share the same common ground of fashion translated into my Art Toy language.
Process

In all three pieces I worked directly from the original looks and the posture of the runway models. I wanted to keep the essence of high-fashion silhouettes, so I pushed the extreme thinness characteristic of that world: limbs built almost directly on the wire skeleton, elongated proportions, and a slightly larger head to balance the composition.

Outcome

Even though the first two figures were never used in the editorial they were created for, they opened the door to a direct commission from María Escoté.

Here I present the three of them together because, despite having different origins, they form a small collection that reflects how naturally fashion and sculpture blend in my work.
