Runway Art Toys
Yves Saint Laurent
& Maison Margiela

Genesis

The first two pieces in this set were originally created after being contacted by a fashion magazine in Barcelona.
They wanted Art Toys based on two iconic runway looks. One from Maison Margiela and one from Yves Saint Laurent.

Some time later, after seeing these pieces, María Escoté commissioned a figure inspired by the YSL look Le Cœur, designed by Hedi Slimane.
Although the three works were created at different moments and for different reasons, I present them together because they share the same common ground of fashion translated into Art Toy language.
Process

In all three pieces I worked directly from the original looks and the posture of the runway models. I wanted to keep the essence of high-fashion silhouettes, so I pushed the extreme thinness characteristic of that world, limbs built almost directly on the wire skeleton, elongated proportions, and a slightly larger head to balance the composition.

Outcome

Even though the first two figures were never used in the editorial they were created for, they opened the door to a direct commission from María Escoté.
