Rocket Megateq
Speaker Art Toy
Genesis

In 2019, Martian Toys invited me to intervene the Megateq figure by Quiccs for a group show at NY Comic Con. At the time I was still working within my zombie-era cutout language, so translating that approach into a robotic character felt like a natural extension of what I was exploring.

Inside the head, I installed a Bluetooth speaker, something I had experimented with in previous works. To make the mask functional, I built a small hinge system and embedded magnets in the crest so it could stay up when lifted.
Process

I added two yellow acrylic tubes as extensions of the legs, turning them into propulsion units, and sculpted an explosion at the base to create the sense of a takeoff. A small LED placed underneath illuminated the tubes from below, giving the figure a powered-up, almost Mega Man energy.

Outcome

The piece was exhibited as part of the Martian Toys show at NY Comic Con. It remains one of the more playful interventions I’ve done, mixing movement, mechanics, lighting and sound within the constraints of an existing designer toy.
